About The Position

The High-Voltage Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of high-voltage electrical systems and components for the company’s in-house power grid. This position assists with developing cost-effective plans for new construction and repairs, administers the department’s inventory, and is responsible for opening, reviewing, and closing repair orders, as well as ensuring their accuracy and timely submission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • At least five years of experience working in power distribution or related field
  • Comprehensive knowledge of power distribution through substations, transformers, and transmission lines
  • Ability to troubleshoot faults in transformers up to 200 MVA
  • Ability to troubleshoot faults in insulators, bushings, and other connection points
  • Ability to troubleshoot and test current transformers and any other metering devices used in high voltage systems
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Proficiency with using the Microsoft Office suite – i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Valid class C driver’s license
  • Safe driving record for the last three years

Responsibilities

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
  • Maintain transformers, overhead line, switch gear, and substation lines.
  • Assist with developing cost-effective plans for new construction and repairs.
  • Administer the department’s inventory.
  • Prioritize and monitor maintenance activities.
  • Assist with developing a preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Open, review, and close repair orders and ensure accuracy and timely submission.
  • Communicate with manager and operators about the current status of equipment being operated.
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure proper repairs are made and products are work ready.
  • Update the database with current and accurate information.
  • Hold daily safety meetings with the crew.
  • Comply with company safety policies and with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) regulations.
  • Report immediately any safety violations and correcting unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
