Nice To Haves

  • Degree in mechanical, mechatronics, materials, or industrial engineering.
  • Experience with Solidworks or related CAD/CAM software and MatLab engineering data analysis software.
  • Experience in manufacturing, development, and characterization of fiber-reinforced carbon/carbon, ceramic, or ceramic-matrix composite materials.
  • Engineering experience in composite-material characterization and processing, including carbon-fiber-reinforced composites, carbon-carbon, and/or ceramic-matrix composites.
  • Experience with high-temperature composite processing equipment and processes, including textiles, composite lay-up, carbonization, CVD and CVI, resin and polymer infiltration, powder processing, melt infiltration, and sintering.

Responsibilities

  • Support processing and characterization of carbon/carbon and ceramic-matrix composites for high-temperature aircraft brake and hypersonic structural applications.
  • Create mechanical design drawings and CNC programs using Solidworks, NX, Solidworks-CAM, or similar CAD/CAM software.
  • Prepare and lead Engineering Test Requests using Carbon R&D and production processing and test facilities.
  • Prepare draft process and materials specifications documenting material, process, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Manage multiple R&D projects and project tasks, including planning, materials processing and testing, data collection and analysis, and technical reporting.
  • Prepare monthly status reports, Carbon Technical Notes, and Carbon Engineering Reports, and present summaries to technical teams and leadership.
  • Complete multiple activities, including providing direction to technicians and production personnel to achieve project objectives.
  • Anticipate technical problems, address problems with multiple variables and unknown solutions, and propose practical solutions using clear, well-reasoned logic.
  • Execute projects as a team member with limited oversight or supervision.
  • Develop or implement practical and potentially patentable materials and processes.
