About The Position

The NAF School of Business Lead Teacher role is an integral part of the KIPP DC Collegiate Preparatory High School team, ensuring high-quality, career-focused programming that provides students with real-world learning opportunities, industry-recognized credentials, and meaningful work-based learning experiences in the high-demand sector of Business, Finance, and Accounting and related fields. As one of the highest performing public school systems in Washington, DC, KIPP DC believes that all students have the right to joyful, challenging, and culturally responsive learning experiences. Teachers are core to that work. The starting salary for teachers is $65,500 and increases with relevant years of Lead Teacher experience and graduate-level education, as outlined in our instructional salary scale. Compensation is determined by the scale and is non-negotiable. Teachers may be content-specialized (for example, English, math, science, social studies, or specialty electives).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Math, Accounting, Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, Education, or a related field.
• Teaching certification preferred; strong consideration for relevant industry experience.
• Passion for business and financial education and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• At least one year of teaching experience in a PreK3–12th grade school OR an education degree that included student teaching / residency with full-classroom responsibility
• “Teaching experience” here refers to serving as the teacher of record / lead instructor responsible for instruction and progress of an assigned class or section. It does not include paraprofessional work, substitute-only experience, internships without lead teaching responsibility, or daycare-only experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach NAF-approved courses such as Accounting and Business Management.
• Deliver engaging, hands-on learning experiences that align with industry standards and prepare students for certifications and internships.
• Integrate project-based learning to support student development of critical and professional skills.
• Foster a growth mindset and high expectations for all students.
• Support students in building professional deliverables such as resumes and cover letters and preparing for paid internships.
• Facilitate access to mentorship, career panels, and industry experiences.
• Partner with local businesses, universities, and organizations such as (ex. Amazon, EY, and Raytheon) to provide authentic learning experiences and internships.
• Collaborate with the NAF Director and other educators to ensure program alignment with student and industry needs.
• Stay current on trends in Accounting and Business education and participate in professional development opportunities.
• Mentor and support other educators in implementing relevant curricula.
