About The Position

iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to K-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. We use the K-12, inc. curriculum as the basis for instruction and you will teach via the Engageli platform. Teachers instruct students online daily both synchronously and asynchronously. iQ Academy, Los Angeles High School Teachers meet with content students throughout the week in their virtual classrooms to provide direct and targeted instruction that meets the needs of the students and support their homeroom students as needed. Each homeroom has about 30 students. We do our best to assign homeroom students locally, as teachers will be required to plan and attend at least one ‘outing’ per semester, in addition to special events such as graduation. They also provide students additional help, individualized instruction, grade work, have daily communication and conferences with students, families, and learning coaches via telephone and email, attend virtual all-staff and department meetings, in-person professional development, and monitor attendance. High School teachers may meet with their students face to face for tutoring and/or testing. All teachers are required to proctor state testing.

Requirements

  • Valid/current Preliminary/Clear/Life California Single Subject Teaching credential with the Foreign Language: French subject authorization
  • California English Learner Authorization- Issued by CTC
  • Reside in the state of California
  • Bachelor's degree

Responsibilities

  • Orienting students to their courses and communicating course and school requirements. This includes communicating via email, phone, in person and online classroom.
  • Support homeroom students with general school information, schedule set-up, monitor student attendance and progress throughout the program. The homeroom teacher is a high school student’s first point of contact when an issue arises. The relationship between the homeroom teacher, student and family is vital to the success of our students. Live session support is provided to homeroom students who are struggling academically.
  • Provide small group and direct instruction to students of course content.
  • Participate in instructional coaching and develop instruction to address coaching goals.
  • Augment course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment.
  • Implement student’s IEP’s and attend IEP conferences as needed.
  • Set deadlines for student work and grant extensions as deemed appropriate.
  • Face to Face meetings with students and teaching adult as scheduled. This may include in person or an online classroom meeting.
  • Grade student work and enter grades into an online grade book in a timely manner (no more than 3 days without an update in grade book).
  • Ensure all communication with families is documented according to school policies.
  • Meet with designated administrator to discuss student data and set goals and actions for remediation. Instruction should be provided based on those action items.

  • Participate in State Testing- this includes but is not limited to: Proctoring throughout testing window and all other state mandated and school required assessments, Assigning students to test sites, Following up with students who have not tested and make arrangements for makeup testing., Assisting site coordinator, Following up with student, parent and/or administrator if there are issues, Organizing testing materials
  • Contribute to and complete student progress and report cards.
  • Hold Parent Teacher Conferences/ Check In Calls with homeroom families quarterly.
  • Communicate with parents as needed; this includes but is not limited to: Calling student, Emailing students and parents, Meeting students and parents synchronously, both online and in-person, Returning phone calls and emails as soon as possible but no longer than 24 hours
  • Collaborate with other instructional teachers and support team.
  • Communicate with teachers, support staff, and Administration as needed. This includes but is not limited to: Calling and/or emailing teachers and Administration as needed
  • Must attend all in person meetings as scheduled
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Help with the planning and delivery of Parent Orientations. This will entail contacting the families of assigned students, participating in and attending the event(s), and following up with families to ensure they are prepared for the start of school. Orientations will run during the end of the summer. Additionally, teachers are expected to participate actively in and attend High School Hangouts, Graduation, outings, and other in person events for students and families throughout the year.
