As a Student Trainee at Caterpillar’s Pontiac Facility, you will be working with the Facilities Engineering team supporting some of Caterpillar’s world class Fuel System and Aftertreatment components. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a team making improvements in safety, quality, velocity, and cost. This position is located in Pontiac, IL with an anticipated start date of early summer 2026. Part-time hours (10 to 32 hours per week) will be expected.

Requirements

  • Must be an incoming high school junior or senior for the 2026-2027 school year.
  • Must be within commutable distance to the Pontiac, IL facility with reliable transportation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive operations.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

  • Ability to follow documented procedures for standard work, to perform work safely and free of defects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Aptitude for assembly and mechanical work.
  • Interest in a potential career in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble furniture and equipment according to instructions and safety guidelines provided.
  • Relocate furniture and other items within the facility.
  • Complete basic administrative tasks, such as documenting machine locations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
