About The Position

Aug Prep is launching its North Campus in the 26-27 school year, initially serving about 300 students in grades K4-6 and 9. This role is for a High School Science Teacher at the new North Campus. The position is full-time during the 10-month school year. The teacher will be an exceptional collaborator and team player, possess a deep understanding of scientific thinking, methodology, and principles, and have the ability to connect with and inspire students. Ideal candidates will be passionate about working in a diverse education setting as part of a high-performing, driven staff, well-versed in strategies to promote metacognitive engagement, and willing to go the extra mile for students. Candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, and show expertise in developing lesson plans. The role involves delivering rigorous, engaging instruction, adapting curriculum, using academic data to modify instruction, planning and delivering standards-aligned lesson plans, guiding students in scientific thinking, facilitating laboratory work, differentiating learning, evaluating student work, maintaining records, ensuring safety, managing resources, setting behavioral expectations, promoting real-world application of science, preparing students for exams, and integrating educational technology.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics) or in Science Education is required, along with any accreditation requirements.
Active participation in a Christian church.
Effective oral and written communication skills.

Proven experience in teaching or student teaching high school science classes.
Deep content knowledge in the assigned science specialization(s).
Proficiency in utilizing lab equipment and demonstrating chemical/physical procedures safely.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong background in science pedagogy with experience supporting students in developing scientific reasoning, data analysis skills, and a deep understanding of core scientific principles.
Must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity, and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of St. Augustine Prep.

Nice To Haves

Experience managing a high school science laboratory is highly desirable.
A master’s degree is preferred.
A state teaching license is not required.
The first few years of our school you may be asked to serve outside of your roll or area.

Responsibilities

Deliver rigorous, engaging instruction and ensure every learner meets or exceeds academic goals.
Implement instructional strategies to provide individualized and small group instruction by adapting the 9-12 curriculum to meet the needs of each pupil.
Use academic data to modify both whole and small-group instruction in order to best meet the needs of their students.
Develop and implement rigorous, standards-aligned lesson plans for various high school science courses aligned with state and national science standards.
Guide students in conducting careful observations, analyzing scientific data, and evaluating evidence across a variety of scientific disciplines and real-world contexts.
Develop, set up, and supervise hands-on laboratory experiments and demonstrations, ensuring students learn proper scientific procedure and strict safety protocols.
Adapt instruction, materials, and assignments to meet the varied learning needs, abilities, and interests of all students, including those with IEPs or ELL status.
Assess and evaluate student writing, reading comprehension, and oral presentations using clear rubrics and providing detailed, constructive feedback.
Accurately record and report student attendance, grades, and progress in compliance with school and district policies.
Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive classroom and laboratory environment, ensuring all students are trained in and adhere to safety regulations for handling materials and equipment.
Oversee the organization, inventory, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, supplies, and materials.
Establish and consistently enforce clear behavioral expectations for the classroom and lab to maintain an optimal learning environment.
Design learning activities that demonstrate the real-world application of science concepts and encourage creative thinking and problem-solving.
Prepare students for standardized tests and college-level exams, such as the SAT, ACT, or Advanced Placement (AP) exams where applicable.
Integrate educational technology, software, and resources into the science curriculum to enhance learning experiences.
Build trusting relationships with students so each child feels known, seen and loved.
Serve as the cultural and spiritual model for their students, always interacting respectfully and striving to demonstrate God’s love to their students and families.
Support students’ character development by modeling and reinforcing the Aug Prep Way: serving in love with integrity, respect, courage and perseverance.
Communicate proactively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues, providing frequent updates on student progress, classroom activities, and school initiatives.
Work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents/guardians, and community members, maintaining positive, solution-oriented relationships that foster a strong, inclusive environment for optimal learning.
Continuously seek professional growth through building and department meetings/professional development, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars/in-services.
Perform other related tasks as assigned, such as supervising students outside of class (hall duty, lunch duty) or advising extracurricular activities (like a Math Club or coaching).
