About The Position

Aug Prep is a K4-12 school community where excellence, faith, and holistic education come together. We are seeking an exceptional collaborator and team player with a deep understanding of literacy within the content area and an ability to connect with and inspire students. We are particularly interested in educators passionate about working in a diverse education setting as part of a high-performing, driven staff. Ideal candidates will also be well versed in strategies to promote metacognitive engagement and be willing to go the extra mile for students. Candidates should be organized, detail oriented, and show expertise in developing lesson plans.

A bachelor’s degree in English is required, or a closely related field is required, along with any additional accreditation requirements.
Active participation in a Christian church.
Effective oral and written communication skills.

Proven experience in teaching or student teaching high school ELA classes.
Expertise in English grammar, usage, and mechanics.
Strong background in literary history and theory, and expertise in effective writing instruction.
The candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity, and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of St. Augustine Prep.

Nice To Haves

A master’s degree is preferred.
A state teaching license is not required.
Experience teaching AP, Honors, or specialized courses is a plus.

Responsibilities

Deliver rigorous, engaging instruction and ensure every learner meets or exceeds academic goals.
Implement instructional strategies to provide individualized and small group instruction by adapting the 9-12 curriculum to meet the needs of each pupil.
Use academic data to modify both whole and small-group instruction in order to best meet the needs of their students.
Develop and implement rigorous, standards-aligned lesson plans for various high school ELA courses (e.g., 9th Grade English, American Literature, British Literature, AP Language/Literature, Journalism, or Creative Writing).
Guide students in the close reading and critical analysis of diverse literary texts (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama) from various time periods and cultures.
Instruct students in the writing process across multiple genres and styles, focusing on research skills, organization, mechanics, rhetoric, and effective argumentation.
Adapt instruction, materials, and assignments to meet the varied learning needs, abilities, and interests of all students, including those with IEPs or ELL status.
Assess and evaluate student writing, reading comprehension, and oral presentations using clear rubrics and providing detailed, constructive feedback.
Accurately record and report student attendance, grades, and progress in compliance with school and district policies.
Prepare students for standardized tests and college-level exams, such as the SAT, ACT, or Advanced Placement (AP) exams where applicable.
Foster a culture of literacy and a lifelong appreciation for reading and the power of language.
Integrate educational technology, software, and resources into the English curriculum to enhance learning experiences.
Build trusting relationships with students so each child feels known, seen and loved.
Serve as the cultural and spiritual model for their students, always interacting respectfully and striving to demonstrate God’s love to their students and families.
Support students’ character development by modeling and reinforcing the Aug Prep Way: serving in love with integrity, respect, courage and perseverance.
Communicate proactively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues, providing frequent updates on student progress, classroom activities, and school initiatives.
Work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents/guardians, and community members, maintaining positive, solution-oriented relationships that foster a strong, inclusive environment for optimal learning.
Continuously seek professional growth through building and department meetings/professional development, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars/in-services.
Perform other related tasks as assigned, such as supervising students outside of class (hall duty, lunch duty) or advising extracurricular activities (like a Math Club or coaching).
