About The Position

Georgetown Day School (GDS) is seeking a High School Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. GDS, founded in 1945, is an independent day school in Washington, D.C., committed to academic excellence, educational innovation, and fostering a community of belonging. The school serves 1125 PK-12 students across three divisions on an urban campus with outstanding facilities. The ideal candidate will be a student-centered educator committed to developing students' critical thinking and growth as readers, writers, and thinkers, placing students' interests and experiences at the heart of the classroom.

Requirements

A B.S. in Biology, Physics, Chemistry or a related field is required.
Knowledgeable about adolescents’ intellectual, social and emotional development.
Capacity to teach multiple disciplines at various levels.

Nice To Haves

A Master’s degree is preferred.
Three years or more of teaching experience is preferred.
Demonstrated interest and experience in working in an inclusive school setting devoted to preparing students for an increasingly globalized and multicultural society.
Experience driven by the core charge of working to enhance and bring joy to every student’s individual learning experience in equitable and meaningful ways.

Responsibilities

Teach up to four sections of science and related disciplines at the high school.
Teach three sections of 9th grade Biology and one section of Forensic Science.
Create rich content, creative pedagogy, and authentic relationships.
Work collaboratively with colleagues.
Offer student support outside of class, as needed.
Engage with parents.
Meet regularly with department/grade-level teams.
Attend divisional meetings and all school events.
Serve as an advisor in their second year (assigned a student advisory group).
May opt to take on additional roles to supervise student clubs or coach sports.
Accomplish all tasks as appropriate.
Perform other duties outside this description as necessary.
