About The Position

The teacher plans, organizes, and presents instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. This role involves managing instructional time, student behavior, presenting lessons effectively, monitoring student performance, providing feedback, facilitating instruction, interacting within the educational environment, and performing non-instructional duties. The teacher is responsible for creating a positive and effective learning environment.

Requirements

  • Degree in education or a related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs.
  • Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using a prescribed format.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal and counseling terminology.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of descriptive statistics, statistical inference and statistical theory.
  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
  • Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  • Ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools.
  • Minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Manage instructional time by having materials ready, starting lessons quickly, and maintaining high student time-on-task.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing clear rules and procedures, monitoring behavior, and addressing inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently.
  • Present instruction by reviewing previous material, introducing new lessons with clear objectives, speaking fluently, using understandable language, providing relevant examples, assigning tasks with a high success rate, asking appropriate questions, pacing lessons effectively, making smooth transitions, clarifying assignments, and summarizing key points.
  • Monitor student performance by maintaining clear work standards, circulating to check progress, using various assessment methods, and posing clear questions.
  • Provide feedback on student work to encourage growth, offering prompt feedback on assignments and sustaining feedback after incorrect responses.
  • Facilitate instruction by having a plan compatible with curricular goals, using diagnostic information, maintaining accurate records, aligning objectives with strategies and student needs, and utilizing available resources.
  • Interact effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Perform non-instructional duties as assigned, adhere to laws and policies, and demonstrate professional growth.
  • Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students.
  • Perform other related work as required.
