About The Position

The High School Biology Teacher delivers rigorous, inquiry-based, and standards-aligned biology instruction. This role builds students' content knowledge, analytical thinking, scientific reasoning, and laboratory skills. It also supports student achievement through thoughtful planning, safe and well-managed learning environments, data-informed instruction, and strong collaboration with school leaders, colleagues, and families. This position includes Biology and may include related life science or high school science courses based on campus needs. The successful candidate must maintain high academic expectations, promote scientific inquiry and evidence-based reasoning, and uphold professional standards for student supervision, confidentiality, and school operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge in high school biology.
  • Meets at least one Louisiana-approved credentialing pathway for service in a nonpublic school setting: holds a valid Louisiana teaching certificate appropriate to the assignment; or meets Louisiana nonpublic school instructional staff requirements for the assignment, including a bachelor's degree, a major or equivalent coursework in the teaching area, and required professional education coursework or documented progress toward that coursework; or is eligible to obtain the Louisiana authorization or temporary credential required for the assignment, including a teaching authorization and, if needed, an appropriate science credential.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required employment clearances, including fingerprint-based criminal history review, DCFS State Central Registry clearance as applicable, and any additional state-mandated eligibility checks.
  • Ability to complete required onboarding and annual compliance trainings.
  • Strong instructional planning, classroom management, laboratory safety, communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Louisiana certification in secondary science or an appropriate biology-related content area.
  • Prior successful teaching experience at the high school level.
  • Coursework or an advanced degree in biology, life sciences, environmental science, or a related science field.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English preferred, including the ability to support instruction and communicate effectively in a multilingual school environment.
  • Experience supporting multilingual students and students with documented accommodations.
  • Experience with laboratory instruction, inquiry-based learning, and curriculum-aligned assessment design.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver daily instruction aligned to the Louisiana Science Student Standards and the school's curriculum and pacing for Biology.
  • Design lessons, labs, investigations, and assessments that promote inquiry, data analysis, problem-solving, academic discourse, and application of scientific concepts.
  • Establish and enforce safe laboratory and classroom procedures, including the proper use, handling, storage, and disposal of materials and equipment.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress, provide timely feedback, and adjust instruction to improve achievement.
  • Differentiate instruction and implement assigned accommodations, modifications, and intervention plans.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, lesson plans, lab records, inventory records as assigned, and other required instructional documentation.
  • Create and maintain a safe, orderly, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment that supports student engagement and achievement.
  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, special population support staff, and colleagues to support student success and consistent implementation of campus expectations.
  • Communicate professionally with families regarding academic progress, classroom expectations, and student support needs.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties, transitions, arrival, dismissal, testing, and other school activities.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the High School Principal or designee.
