About The Position

Excel Academy is seeking a Founding High School MLL Specialist for the 2026-2027 academic year. Excel Academy is a network of 5 schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island serving students in grades 5-12, with a majority identifying as Latinx or Hispanic and being first-generation college aspirants. The organization is committed to providing a free, high-quality, holistic education, ensuring students grow at a pace faster than their peers through high expectations, rigorous instruction, and individualized support. The high school program is nationally ranked, preparing students for success in college or their chosen career path. Excel teachers are expected to deliver effective, rigorous college-preparatory instruction, thrive on feedback, and possess passion and expertise in their content areas.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree is required
Rhode Island certified (All Grades English to Speakers of Other Languages Teacher PK-12) or in the process of obtaining certification

Nice To Haves

A Master’s degree is preferred
A minimum of two years’ teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
Applicants who share points of intersection with our students, such as speaking Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or a language commonly spoken by our students and families at an advanced level
Being first generation college graduates
Having grown up low-income

Responsibilities

Collaborate with teachers to help students master content and language objectives
Advise teachers on accommodating curriculum for MLL students
Collaborate with teachers to modify curriculum when necessary
Provide coaching to teachers around best practices for working with multilingual learners
Provide inclusion support for classes containing MLL students
Work specifically with MLL students during assigned periods of the day
Create a safe learning environment for all students by implementing Excel’s strategies and best practices with consistency
Collaborate with department members on curriculum refinement and implementation
Design and implement rigorous assessments that evaluate student mastery of academic standards
Serve as a productive member of the Excel Academy community
Do whatever it takes to ensure the mission of the school is upheld
