Requirements

  • Demonstrated skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.

  • A knack for connecting with people across differences, including parents, colleagues, and students.
  • B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution
  • 2-3 years of special education classroom experience, preferably in urban education
  • Valid and active Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check Clearance (Act 34)
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation Record Check Clearance (Act 114)
  • Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Clearance (Act 168)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned to student needs and established procedures
  • Develop schemes of work, assessments, and instructional materials
  • Establish and communicate clear learning objectives for all activities
  • Provide a variety of resources to support active learning
  • Use technology to enhance and differentiate instruction
  • Provide push-in and pull-out services in math, reading, writing, and social skills
  • Instruct and support students in the use of learning materials and tools
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
  • Prepare classroom environments that support student learning
  • Maintain IEP documentation for an assigned caseload
  • Collect and track data on IEP goals, including behavior plans
  • Ensure all records and reports are accurate and compliant with legal and school requirements
  • Prepare required reports on student progress and services
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and development
  • Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assessments
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students
  • Monitor individual progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and growth
  • Establish and enforce classroom rules and procedures
  • Maintain a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Manage student behavior in alignment with school policies
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues regarding progress and needs
  • Participate in school, department, district, and parent meetings
  • Collaborate with staff to support student success
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls, and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations as directed.
