About The Position

Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) is seeking a High School Intern for their Construction Field Inspection program (2026 Summer Internship Program). This is an eight-week, full-time, onsite program where interns will gain hands-on experience through a rotation in Field Inspection/Observation, Office Engineering, and Administrative Coordination. Interns will work under the supervision of leading professionals, gaining exposure to real projects and opportunities to build skills and learn from senior staff. The program aims to provide a blend of field and office knowledge and offers early access to full-time post-graduation opportunities.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in and pursuing a degree at an accredited Civil Engineering, Construction Management or closely related Undergraduate Program
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and not require visa sponsorship for the internship and/or future employment
  • Demonstrated interest in infrastructure or related field and a strong desire to advance skills related to IEI's work and projects
  • Capable to communicate and interact effectively and successfully with project managers, project engineers, and other staff
  • Demonstrate strong verbally and written skills using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Enjoys working in a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Must be a self-starter, reliable, self-motivated, inquisitive and thrive on figuring things out
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and take initiative
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), MS Teams and navigating the Internet

Responsibilities

  • Gain experience with existing drawings
  • Attend design staff meetings
  • Create basic Excel tables
  • Perform organization management - scan and file projects
  • Transfer markups to Adobe pdf
  • Review existing conditions and existing site photos
  • Assist Project Managers, Rail Coordinator, and/or Project Engineers in reviewing complaints and resolving problems
  • Visit Project Sites with Senior Staff
  • Perform compilation of data and assist in converting the compiled data into plans
  • Learn to estimate material costs
  • Learn to interpret technical documents
  • Develop knowledge of engineering standards, as well as state and local regulations
