About The Position

We seek a High School Guidance Counselor who is familiar with universities, community colleges and trade schools in the area. The counselor also helps students prepare for college or other continuing education by making information available to and assisting them with the application process. He/she must also have a working knowledge of college financial aid options and should be familiar with mental health programs within the community, as referrals may be necessary. The counselor is responsible for overseeing standardized testing, as well as administering aptitude and vocational tests. The counselor also prepares students for graduation, checking to make sure that students have all the required credits. High school counselors are responsible for class scheduling as well as other administrative duties. The Counselor must have excellent communication skills enabling him/her to communicate effectively with school staff, families and community members. The ability to problem solve is critical for this position, as high school counselors must resolve scheduling conflicts and personal disputes on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with universities, community colleges, and trade schools in the area

  • Eligibility for ACSI certification
  • Maintain certifications
  • Network with local professionals

  • Coordinate Programming: School Testing, College Information Night, Informational parent meetings, Open House, Career Days, Classroom workshops, Service hours, Co-op program
  • Initiate and monitor student recognitions: NCAA coordinator, National Merit Program, Dual Enrolment, Governor Scholar Program, Honors First AP Coordinator, Awards Program
