About The Position

The Temporary Full-Time (Summer) High School Group Facilitator is responsible for facilitating daily activities in the summer program, working with their supervisors to develop and implement activities for elementary and/or middle school aged youth, as well as guiding and supervising students in a safe and engaging environment. This position reports to the High School Site Coordinator. This is an ONSITE position with time spent primarily at the assigned school, at Congreso’s office building, and within the community for field trips and off-site activities. The High School Group Facilitator applies the principles of the organization’s signature service delivery approach, Primary Client Model (PCM™), by promoting a positive employee/client-focused experience that is appreciative of the unique strengths, values and needs that each individual brings; and by using data to inform and drive decision making. Attention is given to compliance, quality assurance, and best practices as they relate to the role. Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field required; High school diploma or GED/HISET with a minimum of two years of experience working with children and youth considered.
  • 2 years’ work experience in early childhood education or afterschool settings required; summer and/or community based program experience a plus.
  • Mandated Reporter and VRA training certificates required and may be completed post hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Latino and urban community of Philadelphia a plus.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) written and verbal skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Represents Congreso’s mission, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and will be an ambassador of our work.
  • Facilitates daily activities for up to 15 9th-12th grade students.
  • Writes lesson plans and provides instruction in three focus areas: 1) creative and performing arts (i.e., dance, theater, fashion, visual arts, arts and crafts); 2) STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and/or 3) Athletics and Health (recreation activities, basketball, soccer, cooking clubs, garden clubs)
  • Participates in field trips and off-site activities in alignment with lesson plans and student engagement, contributing to a well-rounded experience and fostering positive relationships during off-site activities.
  • Supervises snack time and ensures a safe, positive environment.
  • Manages classroom to encourage positive interaction among students, resolves conflicts non-violently.
  • Monitors student behavior and recommends any necessary disciplinary action to the Site Coordinator.
  • Tracks student progress using Congreso’s data system as appropriate.
  • Attends all required training and professional development, new staff orientation and ongoing staff meetings.
  • Follows all Congreso Program policies and procedures
  • Maintains and inventories supplies and equipment. Requests supplies and equipment in timely manner.
  • Ensures that classrooms, other school spaces, and off site spaces are left in good condition each day and reports any loss or damage to the Site Coordinator.
  • Immediately records and reports any incidents that occur.
