About The Position

This High School English Teacher position is for the 26-27 school year at Freire Schools, a network of four charter schools in Philadelphia and Delaware dedicated to preparing students from underserved communities for college and beyond. Freire Schools are known for their belief in every student, a strong code of conduct, a sense of family, and joyous, engaged classrooms that focus on academic achievement. The schools have a proven track record of academic gains, ranking in the top 15 nationally for academic progress. The role is within one of Freire's two high schools in Philadelphia, both recognized among the top high schools in the city. The position involves implementing high-quality, standards-aligned curriculum to drive rigorous instruction, critical thinking, and high achievement, while being open to feedback and coaching.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Valid state teaching certification, or a clear ability and commitment to obtain certification
• Strong content-area knowledge and instructional skill
• Positive, solution-oriented mindset with a work ethic and collaborative spirit
• Minimum of two years of successful experience working with diverse student populations

Responsibilities

• Foster a classroom environment grounded in critical thinking, academic rigor, mutual respect, and high expectations for all students.
• Implement high-quality, content-specific curriculum and design instructional materials that promote deep thinking and problem-solving.
• Maintain consistent, proactive communication with families regarding student progress and relevant school updates.
• Engage fully in professional development and collaborate closely with colleagues to best support student learning and growth.
• Teachers hired at Freire Charter High School (20th & Chestnut St.) have the opportunity to be CREW Leaders and will co-lead a class focusing on SEL and community building twice a week.
