High School ELA Tutor - Los Padrinos
About The Position
Tutor Partners is seeking an experienced, qualified high school English Language Arts (ELA) tutor to provide in-person tutoring services in partnership with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall, one of its Juvenile Court Schools. The role offers an opportunity to support students’ academic needs in a specialized educational setting. The tutor will provide small-group and push-in ELA support during the school day, track and report student progress, participate in instructional planning and assessments, coordinate with teachers and school leaders, and help maintain a safe, supportive, and professional learning environment. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., through the end of the 2026–27 school year. The pay rate is $20–$30 per hour.
Requirements
- An associate's degree or a minimum of 24 college credits.
- At least one year of experience working with students in grades 6–12.
- Strong content knowledge in high school ELA, including reading comprehension, writing, and grammar.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to pass required background clearances, such as LiveScan/fingerprinting, as required by LACOE.
- Reliable transportation to the assigned site.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience in juvenile justice or alternative education settings.
- Experience supporting English Learners (EL).
Responsibilities
- Provide small-group and push-in ELA support aligned to student needs during the school day, including reading, writing, and English language development.
- Track and report student progress.
- Participate in instructional planning with teachers and school leaders, administration of assessments, and coordination meetings.
- Collaborate with Tutor Partners staff and site personnel to coordinate scheduling and materials.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and professional learning environment.
