About The Position

Tutor Partners is seeking an experienced, qualified high school English Language Arts (ELA) tutor to provide in-person tutoring services in partnership with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) at Barry J. Nidorf Secure Youth Treatment Facility, a Juvenile Court School. The role supports students’ academic and social-emotional needs in a specialized educational setting.

The tutor provides small-group and push-in ELA support during the school day, including reading, writing, and English language development. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., through the end of the 2026–27 school year. Pay is $20–$30 per hour.

Requirements

• An associate's degree or a minimum of 24 college credits is required.
• At least one year of experience working with students in grades 6–12.
• Strong content knowledge in high school ELA, including reading comprehension, writing, and grammar.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to pass required background clearances, such as LiveScan/fingerprinting, as required by LACOE.
• Reliable transportation to the assigned site.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience in juvenile justice or alternative education settings.
• Experience supporting English Learners (EL).

Responsibilities

• Provide small-group and push-in ELA support aligned to student needs during the school day, including reading, writing, and English language development.
• Track and report student progress.
• Participate in instructional planning with teachers and school leaders, administration of assessments, and coordination meetings.
• Collaborate with Tutor Partners staff and site personnel to coordinate scheduling and materials.
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and professional learning environment.
