About The Position

Marian Catholic High School, part of the Diocese of Allentown, is seeking a High School Business Teacher for grades 9-12. This role involves instructing students in various business topics, creating lesson plans, managing the classroom, and communicating with families. The teacher will be responsible for teaching courses such as Accounting 1, Accounting 2, Intro to Business, and Personal Finance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.
  • PA high school certification preferred.
  • Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH) (No less than 1 year old).
  • Clear records of Pennsylvania Child Abuse History (No less than 1 year old).
  • Clear records of Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check (No less than 1 year old).
  • Attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class.
  • Mandated Reporter Training.
  • An understanding of child development.
  • Skills necessary to relate to the students being taught.
  • Ability to handle classroom situations with fairness and patience.
  • Good writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Teach business topics such as basic economics, resume writing, facts about business careers, account checking, computers, the stock market, accounting, and finance.
  • Deliver instruction on topics such as the principles of marketing, how to operate a business, and the financial aspects of business.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm for Business topics and foster students' academic abilities.
  • Deliver the skills and knowledge necessary for students to function as responsible citizens in the business world.
  • Improve students' knowledge of business practices.
  • Organize daily class time for effective instruction and develop weekly lessons with appropriate instructional materials.
  • Provide detailed instructions/plans for a substitute teacher in the event of absence.
  • Actively supervise students in hallways, library, cafeteria, bus areas, and at special events to ensure safety and security.
  • Read and stay abreast of current topics in business.
  • Maintain fair, accurate, and timely grading policies, procedures, and attendance.
  • Regularly check email and update web pages as required.
  • Grade papers, assignments, and assessments promptly and accurately.
  • Communicate with students and parents regularly about schedules, assignments, events, and individual student needs.
  • Meet with parents during parent-teacher conferences.
  • Evaluate each student's progress in business knowledge and keep appropriate records.
  • Prepare, administer, score, and record results of tests to evaluate student progress.
  • Prepare progress reports and report cards.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters, including social media and online platforms.
  • Follow all Marian Catholic High School and Allentown Diocese policies.
  • Maintain and engage in professional growth, adhere to professional standards, and demonstrate professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Attend all required in-service training meetings and workshops.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor, administrator, or principal.
