About The Position

The High School Behavioral/Instructional Staff Assistant will work individually and with small groups of students who have behavior needs that go beyond standard classroom discipline. This role involves supervision, direct intervention, instructional support, data entry, and administrative tasks to support students, teachers, and counselors.

Requirements

  • 48 college credit hours or a passing score on the ParaPro test
  • Six (6) months of related experience working with elementary age children, behavior management, and/or coaching.
  • A positive, open, and patient attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during In-School Suspension, breakfast, lunch, recess, and check-in/check-out.
  • Provide direct instructional intervention and behavior services support for students.
  • Support teacher instructional interventions in the classroom and work with the Positive Behavior Support Program.
  • Enter and monitor student data using designated data systems.
  • Assist counselors with the student registration process.
  • Organize SEOP files for counselor use.
  • Answer telephones, greet the public, and assist guidance secretaries.
  • Guide students through computer-generated career exploration assessments.
  • Maintain various data banks and publish lists of information.
  • Schedule students or make changes under the direction of a counselor.
  • Schedule appointments and mail information as requested.
  • Assist teachers in one-on-one student support in reading, math, science, etc.
  • Assist with reading chains in elementary schools.
  • Duplicate and prepare materials for teachers, including making copies and laminating charts.
  • Instruct students on computer programs for Accelerated Reader Programs.
  • Monitor and reinforce behavioral interventions and programs.
  • Assist in teaching social and academic skills.
  • Monitor and record data for behavior, academic, and IEP plans.
  • Supervise children on the playground.
  • Mediate arguments and fights between students.
  • Notify supervisor of serious rule infractions or incidents.
  • Administer minor first aid.
  • Enforce school rules.
  • Escort students to and from the playground.
  • Distribute playground equipment and manage storage.
  • Supervise students and intervene when socially appropriate.
  • Assist bilingual/monolingual children in understanding classroom material.
  • Tutor students with English deficiencies in small groups and/or individually in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Assist the Bilingual Teacher in planning lessons, using various instructional methods, and utilizing English and Spanish (and possibly other languages) in the classroom.
  • Assist in language assessment and evaluation of students.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing portfolios for English-deficient students, collecting data, and communicating with other school personnel.
  • Administer tests at the beginning and end of the school year and record data on student progress.
  • Develop, coordinate, and host Career and College Exploration for Juniors, including coordinating with presenters and student participation.
  • Develop and host OHS Career Fair for all OHS students, including soliciting business participation and creating student handouts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
