About The Position

Under the general direction of the Director of Activities, Arts & Athletics, this position is responsible for providing management and care of injuries sustained by high school athletes. This includes, but is not limited to, emergency care, development of injury prevention programs, assessment of injuries, management of treatment protocols, providing appropriate preventative measures and devices. The District represents a diverse community with a population of?more than 50% of students with diverse backgrounds. We seek an individual who has successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities. The selected candidate must demonstrate a commitment to strengthening community engagement and communication with the District’s diverse populations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training with Master’s degree preferred
  • Washington State Athletic Training Licensure (or ability to become licensed prior to first day of work)
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board Certification
  • Skills to administer appropriate levels of health care, screening tests, maintain records, communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of health diagnostic and evaluate techniques, athletic training/health care practices, athletic training/health rules and regulations, record keeping requirements and child development patterns.
  • Abilities to sit for prolonged periods, administer to medical needs, respond appropriately to medical emergencies, and work independently.
  • Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, fingering, talking/hearing conversation and other sounds, near/far visual acuity.
  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurability
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors occasionally during all seasons.
  • Able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing tasks and priorities.
  • Able to remain calm, focused and in control when working with students, parents, guardians, and community members.
  • Able to follow written and verbal direction and take the initiative to seek clarity and take action when needed.
  • Able to organize work and set priorities for accomplishing work in a timely and effective manner.
  • Able to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in the use of office and computer equipment and use standard office software and student information system software.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Conducts an initial assessment of an athlete’s injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and determine whether they should be referred to a physician for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
  • Organize and manage daily operation of the athletic training room.
  • Apply protective or injury preventive devices.
  • Assess and report progress of recovering athletes to coaches, physicians, and parents.
  • Maintain the ability to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays as necessary/required.
  • Travel with athletic teams to be available at both home and away practices and contests as scheduled by the district/site athletic directors.
  • Evaluate status of injured athletes and make recommendations for return-to-play.
  • Act as a liaison between health care providers, the school and school district staff, athletes, coaches, and parents.
  • Work in cooperation with the school nurse in determining existing health conditions which may affect athletic participation and/or the general health and safety of athletes.
  • Maintain accurate records of all injuries, treatments and protocols provided.
  • Conduct and evaluate head/injury/concussion pre-screening, recovery protocol, and return-to-play status.
  • Provide coaches and site athletic director with a list of student athletes who are medically eligible to participate under district and state rules and regulations.
  • Provide coaches and site athletic director with a list of student athletes who may require specialized medical care and/or medications, coordinate with the school nurse to ensure coaches have received the appropriate training to administer medications and respond to life-threating medical conditions.
