About The Position

The High School Associate Dean will assist with behavioral crisis-intervention and acute behavioral issues. This role involves supporting teachers, students, and parents in creating and implementing individual behavior plans. A key responsibility is ensuring all students have excellent attendance and arrive at school on time, working aggressively with students and parents to achieve this. The Associate Dean will also manage homework collection and distribution, reinforce the school-wide behavior plan (including scholar dollars and rubric systems), and ensure the physical environment supports school culture and student achievement. This position requires a highly visible presence during school hours to maintain an exceptional school culture, proactively monitoring student behavior in classrooms and hallways, and overseeing behavioral pull-out and in-school suspensions. The Associate Dean will coordinate student apologies and school culture messages at Community Meetings, supervise various school periods (breakfast, lunch, transitions, enrichment, dismissal), and manage after-school detention. Additionally, they will assist in maintaining accurate student discipline records and work closely with School Leaders to uphold a positive, structured, achievement-oriented school culture, supporting teachers in holding students to high behavioral expectations.

Requirements

  • Good organizational and time-management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of one to two years teaching experience in an effective urban charter school
  • Valid NJ Substitute Teaching Credential (minimum level of certification)

  • Experience in school(s) which rely heavily on intervention, literacy, and learning as a means to dramatically increasing student achievement develop content knowledge and skills (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assists with behavioral crisis-intervention and acute behavioral issues
  • Assists teachers, students, and parents in the effective creation and implementation of individual behavior
  • Leads efforts to ensure all students have excellent attendance and arrive at school on time, and works aggressively with students and parents to ensure excellent attendance
  • Arranges for efficient homework collection in the morning, and ensuring homework is delivered to staff from students appropriately and accurately
  • Helps to reinforce the effective use of a school-wide behavior plan, including managing the school’s scholar dollars and rubric systems
  • Ensures that the physical environment of the school reinforces school culture and facilitates student achievement
  • Is highly present and visible during school hours, relentlessly ensuring the school has an exceptional school culture
  • Proactively circulates throughout classrooms and hallways during the day, to gain valuable context on student behavior and help support positive school culture
  • Monitoring behavioral pull-out and in-school suspensions
  • Coordinates student apologies and school culture messages at Community Meetings
  • Helps with supervising breakfast, lunch, in-between class transitions, enrichment, and dismissal, making sure students are always where they are supposed to be and ensuring a professional school culture at these times
  • Manages after-school detention
  • Assists in keeping accurate student discipline records, documenting all conferences, suspensions, and phone calls home for behavior
  • Works closely with the School leaders to maintain a positive, structured, achievement-oriented school culture
  • Supports teachers to hold all students to high and consistent behavioral expectations
