About The Position

Under the supervision of the junior/senior high school principal, the Engagement Specialist will work to increase our students’ connection and engagement with school. The Engagement Specialist will serve our school community with the goal of maintaining an educationally sound, intellectually safe, and emotionally supportive school environment. The Engagement Specialist will identify and support our “at-promise” students (students with at-risk indicators) by ensuring all students are connected to school with commonly understood behavioral, academic, and social expectations. This work will be in conjunction with students, families, teachers, and Main Office staff to remove barriers and provide opportunities for maximizing student engagement with school.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.
  • Knowledge of current academic, behavior, and social-emotional interventions, including SEL, Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), and MTSS frameworks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and organizational detail.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and evaluate job-relevant data in support of students.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and personalities, including educators, support staff, families, and community partners.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and prompt written communication skills, with the ability to engage, update, and inform various school partners.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to proactively influence the decision-making of others in support of an inclusive and equity-minded school environment aligned with school and district goals.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in collecting, tracking, and analyzing data to inform decision-making and support student outcomes.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities and projects effectively without losing personal connection in task-oriented moments.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for restoring relationships via appropriate Student Support Team staff, leveraging restorative practices.
  • Provide input prior to Student Support Team (SST) / Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team meetings with pertinent behavior and attendance reports, identifying students needing additional support.
  • Monitor and communicate regular and punctual attendance by providing reinforcement and removing barriers for students to be in-person and on campus for learning (Note: Proactive engagement only; excludes truancy enforcement).
  • Communicate efforts around progress monitoring for student behavior, attendance, and social concerns with the junior/senior high school principal, SST/MTSS, and other relevant school colleagues.
  • Supervise and enhance the system for positive student recognition around behavioral expectations, collaborating with teacher-leaders and the building principal.
  • Provide behavior data reports to the principal and staff, including an annual evaluation of behavior patterns, programs, and interventions.
  • Holding students to the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Responding to office referrals and serving as the initial lead in Tier 1 and Tier 2 behavior issues, assigning behavioral reinforcement.
  • Enforcing accountability for the Student Handbook and Student-Athlete Code of Conduct.
  • Serving as building test co-coordinator, developing testing calendars, and assigning proctors.
  • Overseeing the building supervising team, managing in-school suspension, before/after school detention, and general lunch/hallway/campus supervision.
  • Establishing and staffing supervision schedules for athletic contests, major school events, dances, prom, and graduation.
  • Managing the athletic student section and coordinating student cheers/spirit.
  • Checking in with guest teachers and coordinating coverage with administrative assistants.
  • Participating in PLC meetings and supporting continuous improvement goals.
  • Supervising virtual class programming and completing pupil accounting reporting.
  • Assisting with staff meeting agendas and co-facilitating professional learning.
  • Completing the annual School Infrastructure Database (SID) state report.
  • Communicating directly with truancy officers for legal proceedings.
  • Other duties as assigned (unless explicitly restricted to supplemental 31a interventions).
