About The Position

The High Country Program Administrator is the on-site GME leadership presence for the Boone and Linville region, managing program operations and building regional relationships while coordinating with central GME office leadership. This role involves supervising program coordinators and administrators, overseeing program-level operations for residency/fellowship programs, serving as the primary institutional point of contact, addressing operational issues, and co-leading program-level initiatives. The administrator will also ensure accreditation compliance, champion resident/fellow well-being, provide direct support and mentoring to residents and fellows, support recruitment efforts, and develop strategic relationships with partner institutions and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all program coordinators and administrators assigned to high country programs (Family Medicine, General Surgery Watauga track, Sports Medicine, Psychiatry); provide day-to-day direction, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee program-level operations for high country programs Family Medicine, General Surgery (Watauga rural track), Sports Medicine, and Psychiatry residency/fellowship programs, including schedules, evaluations, clinical assignments, and resident/fellow logistics.
  • Serve as the primary institutional point of contact for program directors, residents, fellows, and faculty in the high country region.
  • Address operational issues, facilitate resident/fellow support, and escalate clinical or compliance concerns to GME office leadership.
  • Co-lead program-level initiatives (recruitment, retention, wellness, scholarship, quality improvement) in partnership with program directors and GME office.
  • Represent GME leadership presence at high country clinical sites; build relationships with facility leadership, department chairs, and attendings to support program excellence and institutional priorities.
  • Ensure program-level ACGME compliance across high country programs, including clinical work-hour tracking and quarterly reporting, resident/fellow licensure verification, evaluation compliance, and moonlighting applications.
  • Coordinate New Innovations administration for high country programs (under Institutional Coordinator guidance), including rotation accuracy, duty hour data entry, evaluation deployment, and milestone tracking.
  • Identify program-level trends and compliance concerns; escalate issues to GME office leadership as appropriate.
  • Support preparation for any ACGME accreditation reviews or special reviews affecting high country programs.
  • Champion resident/fellow well-being, quality improvement, and educational effectiveness in the high country region.
  • Provide direct support and mentoring for residents and fellows in high country programs, including orientation, performance feedback, leave management, accommodations, and wellness referrals.
  • Support remediation and performance improvement processes within a confidential and supportive framework.
  • Coordinate resident/fellow events, rotations, and transitions.
  • Serve as accessible on-site advocate and resource for resident/fellow concerns related to training environment, faculty interactions, or program operations.
  • Support recruitment efforts for high country programs, including applicant coordination, interview logistics, and onboarding for new trainees.
  • Build relationships with universities, medical schools, residencies, and other programs to support recruitment pipeline.
  • Support expansion and development of additional rural and community-based training sites in the high country region.
  • Work with GME institutional leadership team to position high country programs for complement increases and new program launches.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with partner institution leadership facility administrators, and community stakeholders.
  • Serve as primary institutional liaison for GME matters in the high country region; represent MAHEC GME at regional meetings and events.
  • Coordinate logistics with partner institutions on training site operations, resident rotations, faculty schedules, and program agreements.
  • Support GME Administrative Director and institutional team on partner communications, site visits, and relationship management.
