About The Position

The Herons Host AM position is a full-time role at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NC. The primary function is to support the daily operations and long-term success of the restaurant by greeting guests in a kind, collected, and positive manner. The role requires a clear understanding and interest in the dishes and beverages served. The host must provide polite, professional, fast, and courteous service with a high level of professionalism, remaining composed for unexpected situations. They must be polite, positive, and accommodating to all guests, maintaining calmness and sympathy regardless of the situation. Accurate communication with staff regarding reservations and potential guests is crucial. The host is expected to assist wherever necessary, including bussing tables, running food, delivering drinks, and resetting tables, embodying teamwork and a positive attitude. The restaurant is considered the host's 'house' and guests are their 'guests,' to be treated with respect. While ensuring great service for the entire restaurant is a significant responsibility, it is made manageable through teamwork.

Requirements

Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks.
Must be a self-motivator and motivator of others.
Must work in a safe, prudent and organized manner.
Must have a minimum of 1 year experience in a similar position.
Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.
Must be able to consistently delight and satisfy our guest.
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
Ability to use OpenTable computer systems and Microsoft Word.
High school or equivalent education required.

Maintain the cleanliness and efficiency of Herons restaurant.
Run food and beverage items whenever necessary.
