About The Position

The Herdsperson reports to the Sow Farm Manager and is responsible for the daily care, health, and maintenance of pigs at the designated work site. The role includes animal care and reproductive tasks, facility cleaning and minor maintenance, feed ordering, and maintaining accurate records. No previous experience working with pigs is required. The general schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; hours may vary based on business needs. A rotating weekend and holiday schedule is required. Compensation is hourly, competitive based on experience, and includes quarterly bonuses. Benefits are available for full-time positions.

Requirements

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Dependable and able to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to frequently bend, reach, squat, and kneel.
Ability to stand, walk, and be on your feet for 9 or more hours per day.
No previous experience working with pigs is required.

Responsibilities

Provide daily care for pigs, including sorting, feeding, and checking water.
Order feed.
Understand and follow the Holden Farms Biosecurity Program.
Power-wash farrowing rooms and hallways.
Move pigs and perform castration.
Perform heat detection on sows and breed sows through artificial insemination.
Conduct pregnancy checks.
Monitor and treat sows as needed by administering vaccines and medicines.
Clean facilities and perform minor maintenance.
Perform monthly maintenance, such as cleaning dryer vents, greasing anchor bearings, and baiting.
Keep detailed and accurate records.
Perform other site maintenance as needed.
