Work Study ONLY: Herbarium Student Employee
About The Position
Oregon State University’s Botany and Plant Pathology department is hiring one part-time Student Worker for the Herbarium. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced herbarium volunteers on an ongoing project to process backlogged recent collections by preparing labels and entering database information. Continuing herbarium tasks may also include specimen mounting and repair. The role involves coordinating work schedules with herbarium volunteers. On-the-job training will be provided for label preparation. This position is open only to qualified and eligible work study students.
Requirements
- Must be a qualified and eligible work study student.
- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
- Must meet academic standing requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
- Must meet the applicable minimum enrollment standard.
- Must have basic experience with word-processing software tools, such as Microsoft Word.
Nice To Haves
- Prior volunteer or work experience in roles requiring clear communication and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Create digital specimen labels.
- Prepare physical specimen labels.
- Enter information into databases.
- Communicate and coordinate schedules with herbarium volunteers.
- Manage specimens by accessing specimens from the backlog and depositing them for mounting.
