About The Position
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, sets-up and operates dialysis machine.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Hemodialysis Technician certification from an accredited school/agency (i.e. BONET, NNCC, etc), required.
- Minimum of one (1) year directly related experience, required.
- BCLS certification, required.
Responsibilities
- Sets-up and operates kidney dialysis machine, under the direct supervision of an RN.
- Verifies the machines’ conductivity with an external conductivity meter and checks dialysate PH and temperature.
- Checks water treatment system’s total chlorine and records results on the log.
- Reports readings of >0.1 ppm to the Registered Nurse.
- Logs water hardness as per policy.
- Monitors patient’s vital signs and dialysis machine readings during dialysis and reports abnormal findings to the Registered Nurse.
- Adheres to infection control policies.
- Mixes bicarbonate dialysis and places the system in DI bypass if the R/O is in a fault condition.
- Records resistivity meter readings.
- Assists RN in providing nursing care to patients.
- Draws and prepares blood specimens for transport to laboratory or shipment to transplant center.
- Uses dialysis clinical information system to document patient’s treatment on hemodialysis flow sheet.
- Keeps hard copy records as necessary.
- Performs related duties as required.
