About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, sets-up and operates dialysis machine.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Hemodialysis Technician certification from an accredited school/agency (i.e. BONET, NNCC, etc), required.
• Minimum of one (1) year directly related experience, required.
• BCLS certification, required.

Responsibilities

• Sets-up and operates kidney dialysis machine, under the direct supervision of an RN.
• Verifies the machines’ conductivity with an external conductivity meter and checks dialysate PH and temperature.
• Checks water treatment system’s total chlorine and records results on the log.
• Reports readings of >0.1 ppm to the Registered Nurse.
• Logs water hardness as per policy.
• Monitors patient’s vital signs and dialysis machine readings during dialysis and reports abnormal findings to the Registered Nurse.
• Adheres to infection control policies.
• Mixes bicarbonate dialysis and places the system in DI bypass if the R/O is in a fault condition. Records resistivity meter readings.
• Assists RN in providing nursing care to patients.
• Draws and prepares blood specimens for transport to laboratory or shipment to transplant center.
• Uses dialysis clinical information system to document patient’s treatment on hemodialysis flow sheet. Keeps hard copy records as necessary.
