About The Position

Provides direct or indirect care to a varying number of patients and performs various functions associated with hemodialysis treatments independently and under the direction of a registered nurse. Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
  • Minimum one year of Chronic and/or Acute Hemodialysis experience
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) - Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC)

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years of Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) experience
  • Acute dialysis experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for procedures by taking vital statistics and reviewing dialysis orders and lab work.
  • Sets up and monitors equipment for procedures both during and after.
  • Notes and documents patient's condition during procedure via observation, interview and monitoring of vital statistics; reports abnormal assessment findings.
  • Contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by an RN.
  • Obtains, processes and transports blood samples and culture specimens as ordered.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing dialysis treatments and in cannulation of vascular access.
  • Monitors and trouble shoots dialysis machine and RO/water system.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities to include collection of data and machine maintenance.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
