About The Position

The Hematology Technician II performs laboratory analyses and tests. Prepares samples, sets up instruments, runs tests and reads, interprets and releases results. This is a temporary position with opportunities to convert to a full time permanent role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments preferred
  • Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Parasitology procedures and equipment helpful.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to learn new assignments efficiently and support the work of other teams during low demand periods
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Basic math, interpretive and analytical skills.
  • Strong data entry skills required
  • Personal computer skills, proficient use of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software

Nice To Haves

  • prior/some lab experience preferred
  • 2-, or 4-year degree in science-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and runs lab tests
  • Read and releases test results
  • Read UA slides, bacteria and path review slides at department minimum rates.
  • Build hematology and UA loads
  • Operate Atlas UA instrument as requested.
  • Perform all required quality control per QA guidelines including all instrument maintenance and temperature charts
  • Find missing specimens.
  • Print and reconcile queue list
  • Maintain organization of storage refrigerator
  • Set up and assist with Avian and Exotic specimens as requested
  • Prepare blood smears and perform re-checks as directed using LTP when necessary.
  • Library all samples
  • Ensure bar-coded racks are arranged correctly and loaded onto instruments
  • Run all needed quality control and calibration by department
  • Reads, understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures
  • Maintains clean and organized work area.
  • Restock supplies as needed
  • Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex Hematology tasks to learn through experience
  • May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned
