Helpline Specialist Internship (For STUDENTS Only)
About The Position
FirstLink is seeking part-time Helpline Specialist Interns to assist individuals contacting the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and 211 Information & Referral Helpline. Interns will provide emotional support, offer referrals to community resources, and conduct safety assessments and planning for those in crisis. The role may also involve assisting with other helpline operations to enhance skills relevant to the intern's field of study. Ideal candidates will possess a strong desire to help others with compassion and empathy. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university and earning academic credit for the internship. FirstLink is recruiting for the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in a college or university.

Responsibilities
- Respond to help-seekers reaching the local 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and 211 Information & Referral Helpline.
- Provide emotional support and empowerment.
- Offer appropriate referrals to community resources.
- Facilitate safety assessments and safety planning to those in crisis.
- Assist with other aspects of helpline operations to develop skills and competencies relevant to their program of study.
