About The Position

Assists machine operators engaged in the manufacture of sheetmetal parts for commercial air handling equipment and coils. This role involves lifting, positioning, and removing work-pieces from machines, assisting with loading and unloading, labeling parts, and stacking them in the correct orientation. The Helper also loads, stacks, and transports stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck. They are responsible for collecting tubes and parts for building coils, building coil bodies, and deburring metal parts as necessary. Additionally, the Helper picks up and trucks scrap from work areas, cleans work areas, machines, tools, and equipment, and wears all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This role may also involve training new or existing employees and performing other routine duties. The position requires reporting work-related injuries and near misses, wearing all required PPE, and following safety/environmental rules. The employee is responsible for correcting or reporting unsafe conditions observed within the plant.

Requirements

  • Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos (i.e. safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, shop-floor paperwork, and procedure manuals).
  • Ability to write information from layout drawing to parts.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • No computer skills required.
  • Must be able to obtain a forklift license within three (3) months (required in some departments).

Responsibilities

  • Lifts, positions, and removes work-pieces from machines.
  • Assists machine operator in loading and unloading machine.
  • Labels parts and stacks them in the appropriate location in the proper orientation and with appropriate job routers.
  • Loads, stacks, and transports stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck.
  • Collects tubes and parts required for building coils.
  • Builds coil body (builds frame, inserts fines and tubes).
  • Deburrs metal parts as necessary
  • Pick up and trucks scrap from work areas.
  • Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Wears all required PPE.
  • Trains new or existing employees, if necessary.
  • Performs other routine duties.
  • Responsible for reporting work related injuries and near misses to supervision.
  • Responsible for wearing all required PPE and following applicable safety/environmental rules.
  • Responsible for correcting or reporting unsafe conditions observed within the plant.
