About The Position

As a Helper in the Gas Operations and Construction Department for Long Island, you will experience the personal challenge of working for a world class organization and leader in the Utilities and Energy Industry. These vacancies may occur at any of the following locations: Roslyn or Bellmore. This position offers an excellent opportunity for promotion and development. Your base pay will be increased as you progress through training within our company and you will have opportunities to apply to other positions outside of this career path (such as management, supervisory etc.). This position also offers pay benefits such as step progressions every 6 months as a union member benefit, regardless of training or promotions.

Requirements

• Three years similar or related work.
• Should be mechanically inclined and capable of performing strenuous work.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must successfully complete the following: Pre-assessment testing, regulatory safety training, traffic control/flagger training, Gas Fundamentals training, Abnormal Operating Condition Operator qualification training, Soft-Tissue Injury Prevention training, and Helper-specific training programs.
• Valid Driver’s License required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
• Pass Field Assessment.
• Must have the ability to work without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

• Plumbing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic control, flagging functions.
• Perform manual-laboring work such as digging, backfilling, breaking and removing pavement (asphalt/concrete).
• Helper may work with heavy pneumatic tools.
• Provide physical assistance for setting up and operating underground tools.
• Work with higher-classified personnel by performing laboring functions in connection with the higher classification.
• Perform strenuous work throughout the day (including but not limited to) squatting, walking, lifting tools and materials greater than 80lbs.
