About The Position

The Helper Rigger supports heavy industrial lifting operations by inspecting rigging equipment, planning or assisting with lift plans, attaching and guiding loads, communicating with equipment operators, and helping secure or detach loads. The role may involve climbing structures and working at heights exceeding 300 feet, as well as placing and removing outrigger pads for cranes and other heavy equipment. The position requires prior industrial experience, knowledge of rigging equipment and lift planning, reliable transportation, and the ability to meet the physical requirements and follow company safety procedures.

Requirements

Possess all knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position.
Have more than two years of previous industrial experience.
Be able to meet all physical requirements.
Be able to work at heights exceeding 300 feet and otherwise work at heights.
Have all required tools; a required-tools list will be provided.
Have reliable transportation.
Know rigging equipment and its capacities.
Know required tools and their proper use.
Be a team player with effective communication skills for interacting with coworkers and other work-related contacts.
Have basic knowledge of construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction.
Use problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to identify and resolve issues, including safety risks.
Know proper hand signals for communicating with equipment operators.
Know lift planning, including equipment selection and the capacities of equipment and lifting equipment.
Have basic transportation knowledge related to moving equipment and loads between locations.
Have the arithmetic knowledge needed to plan lifts.
Be willing to follow company directives and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

Act as a safety observer on equipment lifts.
Inspect all rigging equipment.
Plan or assist in planning lifts.
Attach loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment.
Tie rope around loads to guide them during lifting and positioning.
Signal the equipment operator with directional or placement instructions during lifts.
Guide loads during lifting and positioning.
Climb structures to guide and position loads.
Assist in connecting or stabilizing loads before detaching them from equipment.
Detach loads and remove rigging equipment.
Place and remove outrigger pads from cranes and other heavy equipment.
