About The Position

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is seeking a dependable and customer-focused Help Desk Technician to join our growing team in Sterling, Virginia. In this role, you will serve as a key point of contact for employees experiencing technology-related issues and provide hands-on support for computers, software, mobile devices, network connectivity, and other IT systems. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, working directly with users, and providing responsive technical support in a fast-paced business environment. The ideal candidate is organized, resourceful, patient, and able to communicate technical information clearly to employees with varying levels of technical experience.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in a help desk, IT support, desktop support, or similar technical support role.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows operating systems.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and common business applications.
  • Familiarity with computer hardware, printers, peripherals, and mobile devices.
  • Experience supporting iOS and Android devices.
  • Familiarity with remote access and remote support tools.
  • Experience working with help desk or ticketing systems.
  • Basic understanding of networking, Wi-Fi, user accounts, and access permissions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple support requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
  • A customer-service mindset and willingness to assist employees at all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • CompTIA A+, Microsoft, or other relevant IT certifications are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to help desk tickets, phone calls, emails, and employee support requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, operating system, and mobile device issues.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain computers, laptops, printers, tablets, phones, and other company technology.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and update software and operating systems.
  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, including computer setup, user accounts, system access, and equipment.
  • Support Microsoft 365 applications and other business software used throughout the organization.
  • Assist employees with password resets, account access, permissions, and other common user issues.
  • Troubleshoot Wi-Fi, network connectivity, remote access, and basic infrastructure issues.
  • Provide support for iOS and Android mobile devices.
  • Maintain accurate records of company IT equipment, devices, and inventory.
  • Document common technical issues, solutions, and IT procedures.
  • Track support requests and ensure issues are properly documented and resolved.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior IT staff, vendors, or service providers when necessary.
  • Assist with technology deployments, upgrades, replacements, and other IT projects as needed.
  • Provide professional and courteous technical assistance to employees across the organization.
