About The Position

This role involves conducting mechanical and light electrical inspections on heavy trucks. The mechanic will be responsible for understanding and recording services and repairs for accurate vehicle records, performing preventive maintenance on components like brakes, fluids, and lighting systems, and diagnosing and repairing various parts such as transmissions, engines, and drive lines. The position also requires troubleshooting light mechanical issues related to brake systems, servicing equipment by greasing and changing oils/fluids, and performing welding tasks. The mechanic must be able to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure, and operate various shop tools. Safety and maintaining a clean work environment are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, 0-3 years of related experience and/or training at a technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Welding experience required.
  • Must possess a wide variety of tools.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; ability to climb, bend, stoop, and walk.
  • Previous truck mechanic experience required.
  • Class A or B CDL required or the ability to obtain.

  • Spanish speaking or bilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct mechanical and light electrical inspections.
  • Record services and repairs for accurate vehicle records.
  • Complete preventive maintenance such as brakes, fluids, and lighting systems.
  • Diagnose and repair/replace various parts/components that have failed or are causing malfunctions on the equipment, such as transmissions, engines, drain lines, rear axles, gearboxes, springs, drive lines, operators' compartments, fixed ladders and walkways, and other mechanical parts.
  • Troubleshoot and repair light mechanical problems relating to the brake system of all equipment.
  • Service equipment: i.e., grease trucks and related equipment, change oils/fluids.
  • Perform welding of components for the repair of equipment.
  • Operate cutting torch and gas welding equipment, misc. shop tools, i.e., power drills, power saws, air tools, chipping guns, impact guns, and other related air tools.
  • Wear appropriate PPE for tasks being performed.
  • Maintain and help maintain a clean work atmosphere inside and outside the shop.
  • Communicate, improve, and adhere to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
