About The Position

The Heavy Truck Driver is a part of the Road and Bridge team, responsible for the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges in the county that are not part of the state highway system or with a municipality. The role performs skilled duties associated with the operation of trucks and repair, maintenance, and construction of County roads, bridges, and rights-of-way; operates heavy equipment incidental to the work.

Requirements

A valid Texas CDL-Class A license and a good driving record.
Must be able to operate vehicles with manual transmission (stick shift).
Must have over one (1) year experience driving a tractor / dump-trailer combination.
Must have three (3) years of stable work experience.
Working knowledge of road construction procedures and practices: knowledge of DOT guidelines.
Knowledge of traffic control techniques.
Ability to make independent decisions, communicate effectively and appropriately with employees and general public.
Basic computer and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

Hauls gravel and asphalt in trailer dump truck, performs road maintenance or construction related duties while operating equipment.
Transports equipment and supplies.
Inspects specialty vehicles and heavy equipment for proper operating condition, repairs and adjusts equipment and performs maintenance and preventive maintenance as needed.
Maintains and controls traffic at work sites.
Enforce rules and regulations according to DOT guidelines, reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
Occasional operation of motor graders, brooms, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, tractors, mowers, dump trucks, or similar equipment.
Patch potholes, fill road washouts and clean storm drains.
Install and clean culverts.
Meets with foreman for scheduling and assignments.
Helps bridge crew when needed.
Regular attendance and timeliness are required.
