This position involves performing maintenance and repair of pump plant equipment, parts, and components, as well as other related equipment. The role includes periodic inspections and routine servicing, repair, and major maintenance on emergency standby generators and building fire water pumps. Responsibilities also encompass performing routine test runs of equipment, making adjustments to operational and safety controls, and manually checking and evaluating automatic pump equipment to prevent failures or ensure optimization of station outflow. The mechanic will troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions, determine the extent of necessary repairs, and decide when equipment needs to be taken offline. This includes repairing, overhauling, and installing replacement engine and drive shaft components for generators, pumps, and siren installations, as well as their accessories. The role also involves testing and troubleshooting low voltage electric control systems and test circuits using various instruments. Additionally, the position requires keeping logs of equipment tests, service, maintenance, repairs, and operating time. Work may be performed in confined spaces or environments with hazardous materials, requiring the use of safety devices. The mechanic will drive a County shop truck, maintain tools and equipment, and may supervise helpers or coordinate work with other craft personnel.
