About The Position

The Centralized Mechanical Heavy Overhaul Teams function to provide Central Arizona Project (CAP) with internal expertise to maintain our large and geographically dispersed industrial mechanical systems. CAP is seeking a highly-skilled, highly-motivated industrial mechanic to provide journeyman-level technical expertise in the performance and support of this vital function. As a Heavy Overhaul Mechanic, you would perform mechanical duties associated with the preventive maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy industrial mechanical equipment utilized in pumping plants, generating stations, check structures, turnouts and other Central Arizona Project facilities. Your performance of these functions helps to ensure that equipment is safe, mechanically sound, and operating efficiently, in order to provide reliable water deliveries. Occasional in-state travel Mondays – Thursdays is part of the job. As a Heavy Overhaul Mechanic, your jobsite runs 336 miles long, and you (working with your team members) would have your fingerprints on every piece of moving equipment we have here at CAP from pumps, radial gates, and hydraulic turn outs, to underground siphons. Keeping this equipment running is critical to delivering water to the state of Arizona.

Requirements

  • A driver's license with a good driving record
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Three or more years of related journeyman-level experience
  • Strong working knowledge of hydro-electric generating and pumping systems
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulic systems and controls
  • Ability to troubleshoot
  • Highly proficient in the safe use of proper tools and equipment for precision measuring and testing, fabricating, welding, calibrating, machinery alignment and leveling, reconditioning, maintaining, and repairing in an industrial mechanical environment
  • Well versed about industrial safety requirements including hazardous energy control protocols
