About The Position

This is a Military Technician position with the 81st Readiness Division, Area Maintenance Support Activity (AMSA) 121 located at North Charleston, South Carolina. This position requires an active membership as a Soldier in the Army Reserve before a start date can be set. The role involves troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and maintaining a variety of heavy mobile equipment, including construction, industrial, combat, tactical, and powered support equipment. Responsibilities include removing and repairing major systems or components, making adjustments to various systems, performing inspections and diagnostics, conducting body work, and providing technical assistance to unit personnel. The position also requires operating motor vehicles to perform duties.

Requirements

  • Active membership as a Soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR).
  • Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  • Knowledge of Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Knowledge of Trouble Shooting.
  • Knowledge of Use of Measuring Instruments.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must complete a Personnel Security Investigation.
  • Must complete a medical examination prior to employment.
  • Must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration (for male applicants born after December 31, 1959).
  • Must be subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • Must obtain a Class A CDL within 180 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain a variety of heavy mobile equipment, such as: construction, industrial, combat, tactical, and powered support equipment.
  • Remove and repair major systems or components of equipment to include power packs, transmissions, transfers, gear reduction units, injector pumps, air conditioners, fuel pumps and alternators.
  • Make idle speed, current, brake, and transmission linkage adjustments.
  • Perform initial and in-process inspections; perform mechanical diagnostics and troubleshoot to localize defects and determine cause of malfunction; perform mechanical maintenance on defective parts; and perform minor body work.
  • Provide technical assistance to unit personnel.
  • Operate motor vehicles to perform the duties of this position.
