About The Position

This role involves the repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, structural, and pneumatic systems on loaders, forklifts, and heavy equipment. The functions include troubleshooting various systems, performing preventive maintenance, changing bearings, replacing tires, welding, and assisting in mill repairs. The mechanic will also maintain the mobile shop wash bay and surrounding areas, identify parts using a parts manual, and complete work orders and preventative maintenance tasks in a timely manner while adhering to safety requirements and Lock-Out Procedures. Availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime, along with varying shift patterns, is required. The role also demands the ability to work in extreme environments and follow strict safety rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience with direct responsibility in troubleshooting and repairing heavy rolling stock equipment to include: gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, pneumatic and structural damage.
  • Good welding skills in all positions and cutting skills with a torch.
  • Must have professional tools and toolboxes used in the repair of rolling stock equipment and willing to acquire additional tools.
  • Physically capable of bending, reaching, lifting and able to work in extreme environments (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
  • Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised.
  • Able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime hours.
  • Ability to follow direction.
  • Good attendance record.
  • Good leadership qualities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must meet in-house minimum testing standards for Maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-year degree in heavy equipment repair and 5 years’ experience or demonstrated training certifications for heavy equipment.
  • Extensive work history of Caterpillar and Volvo loaders, Taylor and Hyster forklifts and general automotive repair.
  • Experience troubleshooting & repairing hydraulics & pneumatics systems and reading hydraulic schematics.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Responsibilities

  • Repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, structural, and pneumatic systems on loaders, forklifts and heavy equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, fuel, hydraulic, brake and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks on all rolling stock, including oil and filter changes and completing preventive maintenance records.
  • Change bearings and set for proper clearance.
  • Replace flat tires and all miscellaneous repairs.
  • Weld on equipment, as needed.
  • Assist in mill repairs in emergency situations, as needed.
  • Maintain mobile shop wash bay and surrounding areas.
  • Identify parts in parts manual for proper ordering.
  • Understand and satisfactorily complete work orders, preventative maintenance, and other tasks in a timely manner while following all Safety Requirements and Lock-Out Procedures.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment and completing all training.
  • Be available to work weekends, holidays, and overtime hours along with varying shift patterns.
  • Work in extreme environments (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
