About The Position

The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees. Duties Diagnose defects determines work methods and trade techniques to be used in accomplishing the rebuild and/or repair and adjustment of one variant of the reciprocating diesel engine. Perform the complete rebuild and/or repair of one major system of combat vehicles such as engines. Connect component parts to perform assembly of diesel engines, perform add-ons and conducts tests. Perform general mechanical work in connection with the repair, rebuild, overhaul and modification of a variety of combat tactical vehicles.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision which includes perform common reciprocating diesel engine assembly, disassembly, repair, and rebuild operations on V6, V8, and 1790-series engines and components to ensure proper function in accordance with established technical standards.
  • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  • Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)
  • Troubleshooting
  • Use of Measuring Instruments
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  • This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
