About The Position

The Heavy Milling Floater Operator is a cross-functional position responsible for supporting all major operations within the Heavy Milling Department, including saw operations, edge banding, panel processing, and specialty part production. This position serves as a fill-in operator for multiple workstations and equipment, ensuring uninterrupted production flow while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards. The role directly impacts customer satisfaction and company profitability. Due to the physical demands of this position, proper lifting techniques, body mechanics, and safe work practices must be consistently utilized.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of metric and standard measurements and effective use and understanding of calipers

Responsibilities

  • Review and organize production paperwork, work orders, invoices, and Kan Ban cards.
  • Set up, program, operate, and monitor production equipment.
  • Verify materials, wood species, and production specifications prior to processing.
  • Perform cutting, drilling, grooving, edge banding, notching, and other machining operations as required.
  • Conduct first-piece, in-process, and final quality inspections.
  • Identify and correct quality issues, defects, and process deviations.
  • Palletize, band, stage, and transport finished products.
  • Complete production records, worksheets, SIS sheets, and other required documentation.
  • Run red tags, missing door lists, and priority orders as needed.
  • Rotate among departmental positions based on production requirements.
  • Maintain production standards while meeting daily output goals.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
