About The Position

This role involves performing general, non-mechanical labor duties throughout the plant, including inspecting products for defects, preparing raw materials, and depositing fatback into cans. The position requires physically lifting up to 100 pounds, inspecting containers for quality, and maintaining a clean work area. The Heavy Laborer must understand equipment operation, report any mechanical or safety issues immediately, and adhere to safety and hygiene standards. Responsibilities also include following food safety, legality, and quality policies, assisting with kettle loading/unloading, and operating equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks when needed. This is a 2nd shift position.

Responsibilities

  • Sight inspects and removes defects or any extraneous material from product.
  • Performs general, non-mechanical, labor duties throughout the plant.
  • Prepares raw materials for production.
  • Deposits fatback into cans by hand or meat depositor.
  • Physically lifting up to 100 pounds as required.
  • Container inspections to include seam inspections, proper lid placements, and proper fill levels in containers.
  • Keeping work area clean to include sweeping, dumping, and/or disposing of materials used in production.
  • Understanding how certain equipment operates and how to stop equipment if the automatic function fails.
  • Reporting any mechanical and/or safety problems immediately to the Supervisor and/or Leadperson.
  • Adhering to common safety practices/guidelines, including the wearing of protective clothing and equipment as required.
  • Adhering to plant hygiene standards to ensure high product integrity.
  • Following food safety, legality and quality policies and procedures within the scope of the job responsibilities such as but not limited to: GMP’s, HACCP, safety, product quality, food security, plant security, etc.
  • Assisting in loading and unloading kettles in the retorts.
  • Operating a forklift, electric pallet jack, bobcat and hoist when needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Leadperson.
