About The Position

The Ballast Tools Equipment (BTE) division of Good Earth Tools is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician to rebuild new machines to specifications, diagnose equipment repair needs, and perform designated repairs on company-owned machines. Equipment mainly includes excavators and backhoes outfitted for railway maintenance and repair. The work involves mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs, preventive maintenance, machine upkeep, occasional equipment operation for testing, and occasional basic welding. This is an active, fast-paced role requiring 40 hours per week.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in heavy equipment repair, or certification from a technical or vocational program in Heavy Equipment, Diesel, or Automotive Technology.
• Ability to diagnose equipment using laptop computers, gauges, and instruments across machine systems, including electronics, hydraulics, power train, and general machine performance.
• Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools, including basic welding skills.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week and maintain punctual, reliable attendance.

Nice To Haves

• Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer specifications using hand and power tools.
• Troubleshoot and repair production machines, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance and general machine upkeep.
• Detect faults in machine electronics, hydraulics, power train, engines, and general performance using diagnostic laptop computers, gauges, and instruments.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, and drawings to perform service and maintenance.
• Perform maintenance and repairs based on troubleshooting and diagnosis.
• Occasionally operate heavy equipment for testing and to determine repair needs.
• Occasionally use basic welding equipment.
