About The Position

Tlicho Equipment Ltd. (TEL) is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician for its operations in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. As a 100% Indigenous-owned company, TEL provides essential equipment maintenance and repair services across the Northwest Territories. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of heavy equipment and light-duty vehicles. The technician will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing issues, performing preventative maintenance, completing accurate records, and mentoring apprentices. The position involves travel throughout the Tłı̨chǫ communities and the Northwest Territories as required, maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship.

Requirements

  • Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification (4th Year Apprentices are encouraged to apply).
  • 4–5 years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment.
  • Experience working on loaders, excavators, dozers, and other heavy equipment.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and repair skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Class 5 (or higher) Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on heavy equipment and light-duty vehicles.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on loaders, excavators, dozers, trucks, and other equipment.
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate maintenance records using fleet management software.
  • Inspect equipment and identify required repairs or maintenance.
  • Mentor and support Apprentices by sharing technical knowledge and promoting safe work practices.
  • Travel to customer job sites and Tłı̨chǫ communities as operational requirements dictate.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
