About The Position

The Heavy Equipment - Preventive Maintenance (PM) Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance and basic repairs on trucks and equipment, including diesel and non-diesel vehicles, to maximize safe and productive operations. The role primarily focuses on preventive maintenance and related mechanic tasks and services. The technician inspects equipment, identifies problems, maintains vehicle systems and components, documents work and parts usage, and follows safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in a technician position requiring knowledge and application of OSHA Hazard Communication (Haz Com), OSHA Lock Out Tag Out, and OSHA Fire Protection regulations.
• Basic computer skills, including knowledge of and ability to use MS Excel and word-processing applications.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and basic repairs on electrical, diesel and gasoline vehicles, including compactors, excavators, wheel loaders and other vehicles.
• Inspects trucks and heavy equipment for condition, operation and fluid levels, and identifies equipment problems.
• Power-washes equipment as necessary.
• Checks, fills and changes fluids for vehicle components, including engines, transmissions, differentials, final drives, pump drives and hubs.
• Greases, oils and lubricates components during preventive maintenance service.
• Adjusts various systems during preventive maintenance service.
• Maintains or changes air, oil, coolant and fuel filters.
• Performs cooling-system maintenance.
• Checks safety equipment on trucks and equipment.
• Inspects tires according to Republic Services Tire Maintenance Standards.
• Completes paperwork for preventive maintenance and repairs, documenting parts usage and comparing work-order times with time-card times.
• Completes daily consumables reports recording hours, fuel and oil usage, and provides information for entry into Dossier, Republic Services’ fleet management software.
• Drives trucks and equipment into and out of the repair area.
• Follows all safety policies and procedures.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
