About The Position

Republic Services is hiring an entry-level Technician Apprentice for a two-year, paid apprenticeship designed to prepare participants for work as an entry-level Diesel Mechanic and progression to a Level C Technician. Apprentices receive nine weeks of company-paid, in-person training at the Republic Services Technical Institute in Dallas, Texas, followed by up to twenty-two months of on-the-job training, mentorship, and virtual instructor-led technical instruction at a Republic Services business unit. Apprentices gain practical experience while completing technician education and working toward Apprentice certification. Those who demonstrate accelerated development and meet the required milestones may advance to Level C Technician before completing the full on-the-job training period. Training covers electrical diagnosis of starting and charging systems; air conditioning and heating components; wheel-end assemblies; air systems and brakes; hydraulics; and truck preventive maintenance. The program also develops life, leadership, and wellness skills and provides opportunities to build professional networks. Apprentices receive direct supervision from a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Manager and hands-on experience with routine preventive maintenance, basic tire work, wheel-end components, mechanical skills, hydraulics, and electrical systems. The program is tuition-free and offers full-time paid, hands-on training with experienced support. Eligible employees may receive subsidized housing during the Dallas training period. Graduates receive guaranteed consideration for a full-time technician position with Republic Services. A toolbox, tools, uniform, and boots are provided upon completion. Requirements

Commitment to completing the two-year apprenticeship program.
Logical problem-solving ability and an interest in engineering and technology.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include some nights, weekends, or holidays.
Willingness to travel to and live in Dallas, Texas, for nine weeks of in-person training.

Responsibilities

Complete the two-year Technician Apprenticeship program, including company-paid technical instruction and on-the-job training.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks as skills develop.
Learn electrical diagnosis of starting and charging systems.
Identify and inspect air conditioning and heating components, wheel-end assembly components, air-system components, air-brake components, and hydraulic components.
Complete truck preventive maintenance and develop basic tire, mechanical, wheel-end, hydraulic, and electrical skills.
Participate in mentorship and virtual instructor-led technical training while working toward Apprentice certification.
