About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice supports the inspection, maintenance, and repair of trucks, trailers and construction equipment. Working alongside experienced technicians, this role helps keep our fleet operating safely and reliably throughout the construction season. This position is primarily shop based, with opportunities to assist in the field when required. This opportunity is ideal for a registered 1st or 2nd Year Apprentice who is eager to learn and develop hands on experience with a wide range of heavy equipment and truck systems.

Requirements

  • Registered 1st or 2nd Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice
  • Basic mechanical knowledge with a willingness to learn and develop skills
  • Interest in electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Basic welding knowledge and skills are an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with clean abstract (Valid Class 1 License is an asset)
  • Strong work ethic, reliability and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Assist inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of truck, trailer combinations and various off road equipment including compaction equipment, dozers, excavators, graders, loaders and paving equipment
  • Support experienced technicians in diagnosing electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues
  • Learn and follow proper diagnostic and repair procedures while developing technical skills
  • Perform routine maintenance and assist with repairs and breakdowns in both shop and field environments
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
  • Follow all safety procedures and contribute to a safe work environment
  • Maintain shop cleanliness, organization and care of tools and equipment
